DAVAO CITY — The provincial government of Davao del Norte will establish 45 isolation rooms to decongest the emergency facilities of the Davao Regional Medical Center (DRMC) in Tagum City in its effort to fight COVID-19.

Governor Edwin Jubahib said the facility will house persons under investigation (PUIs) with mild symptoms of COVID-19.

“These fully-air conditioned isolation rooms will confine PUIs with mild symptoms so we can help the DRMC concentrate on serious symptoms needing immediate medical intervention,” Jubahib said in a statement.

He said 15 isolation rooms have already been set up at the third floor of the Davao del Norte Hospital in Kapalong while construction of another 30 isolation rooms is now underway in the province-run hospital in Carmen.

The province has allocated a total of P76.9 million from its quick response fund for the construction of the isolation rooms.

The project is part of the provincial government’s urgent measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Davao del Norte, he said.

The national government had earlier directed all Local Government Units (LGUs) to establish their own isolation facilities.

Jubahib said the strict implementation of enhanced preventive measures as well as the increased resources provided by the provincial government and its LGUs are getting positive results in containing the deadly virus.

Based on the report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), Davao del Norte still has no confirmed COVID-19 cases as of March 25, 2020.

The province, however, has 36 PUI cases, 13 of whom have already been discharged with negative results for COVID-19. The remaining 23 are currently confined at DRMC.

Two PUIs who had died tested negative for the virus.

There are 4,551 recorded persons under monitoring (PUMs) in Davao del Norte, of whom 2,361 have already been cleared after completing the 14-day self-quarantine without symptoms.

The other 2,190 are still under home quarantine.
