Davao del Norte’s most prestigious beauty pageant came back stronger this year after it was temporarily suspended due to the impact of the pandemic.
Twenty-two official candidates representing the various local government units of the province started grinding their way in the bevy of activities calendared for the rebooted Binibining Davao del Norte 2022.
The contestants began their pageant training and preparations with basic personality development skills session on June 1, 2022, followed by a pageant walk or Pasarela training the following day.
Top billing this year’s competition is the world-class pageant opening and production numbers, which will be directed by Hollywood and Miss Universe Choreographer Scott Grossman.
Provincial Information Officer Dr. Mervin Jay Suaybaguio, who chairs this year’s competition, said the pageant aims to select strong and empowered beauties, who will be Davao del Norte’s ambassadress of goodwill and development.
“We aim to select the most beautiful, intelligent, well-prepared candidate who is ready to represent the province for the next level of beauty competition(s) and promote tourism, culture, social development and any other humanitarian or environmental causes,” the official said.
Other events lined up in the run up to the Grand Coronation Night on June 30, 2022 include, among others, photo and video shoots in tourism sites and important landmarks of the different cities and municipalities of the province, talent and casual wear competition and a fashion show.
The most anticipated competition highlights the celebration of the 55th Araw ng Davao del Norte on July 1, 2022, with the theme, “Kahiusahan sa Kadaugan ug Maluntarong Kalamboan (Unity in Victory and Sustainable Development).”
Even though the pageant had just staged a major comeback in 2017 after over a decade of hiatus, Governor Edwin “Kuya Gov” Jubahib was forced to suspend the beauty tilt in 2020 following pandemic protocols and considering the health and safety of the contestants.
The crowned Bb. Davao del Norte 2022 will receive P300,000, while the 1st Runner-up will also bag P200,000. The 2nd Runner-up will get 100,000.00 while the 3rd and 4th Runners-up will both take home P50,000.
The top 11 finalists will receive P20,000 each, while non-winning candidates will also get a consolation prize of P10,000 each. The Best in Talent will further receive P10,000, while P5,000 each is allotted for the other minor awards.
