Dabaonons welcomed their new Bb. DavNor 2017 when 21-year old Mary Joy De Castro was crowned during the grand coronation night last June 28, 2017 at the Kadagayaan Festival 2017 Activity Area.  
De Castro won the hearts of both the judges and the thousands of audiences when 18 lovely candidates showed off their charm and intelligence in the evening gown and swimsuit competitions, as well as the question and answer portion.
The surfing and karatedo enthusiast from Tagum City, who graduated AB Mass Communication from the Ateneo de Davao University, received P200,000 cash prize.
Other major and minor awards won by De Castro include Best in Swim Wear, Best in Playsuit, Best in Festivals of DavNor Attire, and Ms. Beautederm Ambassadress.
Reigning Miss World Philippines 2016 Catriona Elisa Gray crowned De Castro, together with Governor Anthony del Rosario.
The governor said the pageant, which was revived after 13 years of hiatus, is about empowering the women of Davao del Norte.
“Behind those gowns are a story of inspiration and empowerment,” the governor said, as he stressed the important job of the winner as ambassadress of goodwill of the Province.
Twenty-two-year old Chariss Manuel, also of Tagum City, a BS Civil Engineering student of UM-Tagum is the 1st runner-up bringing home P150,000 in cash prize, while 22-year old Ed Goldilane Flores of Panabo City, a teacher at the North Davao Colleges is 2nd runner-up with P100,000 reward.
Twenty-one-year old Myrell Martinez of San Isidro, a BS Psychology student of San Pedro College landed 3rd runner-up earning P75,000 prize; while 20-year old Princess Faye Fernandez of New Corella is 4th runner-up with P50,000 cash prize.
The resuscitated pageant, which is an important highlight of the 50th Araw ng Davao del Norte celebrations, was hosted by Miss Universe third runner-up Shamcey Supsup and Actor TJ Trinidad.
The province staged its grandest Golden Jubilee with Tagum Agricultural Development Company (TADECO), Inc. as its official partner, together with Globe Telecom as the official mobile telecommunication partner.
The major sponsors include Ulticon Builders, Inc., Davao Light and Power Company, Med 13, and RVE Farm & BEB's Trading.
