Aimed to improve the coaching techniques of athletics trainers in grassroots communities and the quality of grassroots sports, a five-day training for the Grassroots Coaches of Davao del Norte were conducted by the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Sports Institute (PSC-PSI) November 12-16 at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex.

The said training is the pilot run of the Grassroots Coaching Certification Program of PSC-PSI.

PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez explained that the rationale behind the program is to raise the level of excellence of young Filipino athletes and improvement of credentials and proficiency of coaches in the grassroots.

As consistent partner of PSC-PSI, Governor Anthony G. del Rosario reaffirmed the province’s commitment in advancing and promoting sports for all.

“Kita sa Davao del Norte ga-advocate gyud sa pagpalambo sa atong grassroots sports ug paghatag sa atong mga kabatan-onan ug opportunidad nga makahibawo modula og nagkalain-laing sports,”, he said.

He added that the capacity building of coaches and trainers is in line with the pursuit of furthering education and sport as part of the B.E.S.T. P.E.O.P.L.E. Development Agenda.

“Dili lamang ang atong mga atleta ang dapat natong padayung hanason ug pandayon apan apil na sab ang atong mga Coaches and Trainers.” the governor added.

Fifty-one Elementary and Highschool coaches coming from both public and private schools in the province took multi-level courses on Sport/Coaching Philosophy & Sport Pedagogy. The course required the coaches to pass written examination and practical skills demonstration.
